How long will it take? What should I bring?

Applications generally don't take more than 25 minutes in person. The process is informative making sure you aware of the options available to you. Once your application is conditionally-approved the finance company will need to verify income, outgoings and expenses prior to collection of your new vehicle.

Generally, the process is a two-step (visit) process.

Step 1 - initial visit – introduction into your available options, you will be given quotes on the options you have considered. conditional-approvals are generally very quick, usually 10-30 Minutes after completion of the finance application. Scotty will require you to provide the information outlined below. Scotty will also discuss with you expected timings for the finance company to complete their assessment on the information you have provided.

Step 2 - Second Visit – This visit you will be confirming the options you have chosen and completing the finance documentation, generally you will also take delivery of your vehicle at the end of your second visit.

Why 2 visits? Between the two visits Scotty works behind the scenes completing the income, outgoing and expenses verification process with the finance companies. This also gives our customers time to consider all options they have been presented.

Mechanical Breakdown Insurance (Warranties).

We would only buy a car from a dealer that can offer these. The chances of your car suffering mechanical or electrical failure are many, many times greater than you needing to claim on your car insurance for accident or theft.
Warranties offer protection over and above what dealers legal obligations are.
They also provide a quick remedy for a customer, even when an issue is covered by the law.
A quality MBI (Mechanical Breakdown Insurance) from a reputable, recognised brand will enable the warranty company to deal with issues quicker and more smoothly than can be achieved by most vehicle dealers. Especially if the breakdown is a large distance from home, as they so often are.
A Warranty ensures the customer does not have to rely on a vehicle trader who may not be as happy to see them back as they were when they first purchased the car! If there are any issues later with the required repairs, the warranty company is in the best position to remedy this.
The repairer will not wish to fall short of the expectations of a company who provides them so much work.
A quality warranty provides extra things such as rental cars, accommodation and roadside service, which provide superior protection and for a period of time far exceeding the Consumer Guarantees Act.
Also, what happens if the trader is now out of business? The CGA won't help you then!
The current costs are escalating, you can now be paying $150 per hour for franchise service fees, $100 per scan. Just in October 2020 we did an 02 sensor (Oxygen sensor) on a Mazda Atenza at a cost of $800 and that’s at our trade price.
The technology in vehicles now comes at a really high cost for diagnostic and skilled labour to work on cars, let alone parts prices and availability. Then there is the case of being covered for incorrect diagnosis. In July 2020 we had a BMW Hybrid with an issue, BMW franchise quoted $28000 saying the vehicle required a new engine, the BMW was a 2016 travelled 40,000 kms. We pulled the car from them and took it to a specialist Auto Electrician to find out it just needed a new seal in the hybrid connection at a cost of $2000.
In this day and age we believe Mechanical Breakdown Insurance is so important, the cost of labour, parts, specialist technicians, as well as piece of mind.
It is not a legal requirement for a dealer to provide a loan car if something goes wrong. At a franchise you will get charged for a loan car. At WCD we provide customers loan cars for free for those that have warranties and will facilitate the work for you.

Checkpoints when selecting a Warranty

Check your warranty is the best. When is the first service required? Some companies make you have your car serviced within the first 5,000 km or 3 months after purchase. This sometimes results in claim difficulties as it is easy to travel over 5,000 km when you have just purchased your nice new car! This will invalidate some warranties if there is a claim and it has not been serviced yet. Other companies do not ask for a service until 10,000 or even 15,000 km or 12 months which is when most manufacturers recommend a service.
Check the Claim Limit. Some have claim limits on late model petrol vehicles and others do not. Some have modest almost unrealistically low claim limits, especially on Electric / Hybrid, special category and European vehicles that will not actually cover a large repair, while others are far more generous with their claim limits.
If you are purchasing an EV or Hybrid vehicle. Check that the policy being offered covers the electric drive system and has adequate cover for the battery. Many warranties have little if any cover for the batteries in an EV or Hybrid.
Check if you can use your own agent to service the vehicle and check who the approved repairers are, a reputable warranty company will have a large network of approved repairers
Check if the warranty covers diagnostics and if it has a clause that excludes wear and tear as these warranties will use this to avoid paying claims where they can.
Check that the warranty has a cool off period where you can think about the warranty you have purchased and change your mind if you want to. (Normally 5 working days).

Additional benefits of choosing Provident Mechanical Cover through WCD

Customers who choose to buy into the programme, get 100% backed by WCD. Due to our size, relationship and history with Provident, we utilize a FULL time after sales manager within our team. This puts WCD in a unique position in the industry to be the customers best advocate should a claim situation occur. The aftersales manager will offer to advise and /or facilitate any claims, to ensure you are never left inconvenienced.

Nationwide cover – Provident provides a large network, stretching to literally every corner of NZ. Whether you live there or are just visiting, Provident assistance is available (24/7). So if you are a local buyer (Wellington), or buying one of our cars from out of town, the facility options are the same.

The WCD/Provident Difference - What to compare

For those of you who like to do their research, here is what you will want to compare:

THE REAL DEAL ON WHY WE OFFER THE BEST

All of WCD’s vehicles are serviced in-line with Providents expectations, meaning your first service is not due until the next regular service interval - Make sure you check this, as many other policies will request an earlier service, costing you unnecessarily.
No wear ‘n’ tear clause – Make sure you check this. With Provident, this means that even an oil leak is covered. Many policies on the market will wriggle their way out of a claim with this clause.
Mechanical, electrical and nowadays more importantly electronic and diagnostics cover – Make sure you check this. So important and assuring knowing that almost every possible fault with a car will fall into one of these categories.
Time and Labour – Make sure you check this. It’s not just the part that is required. A lot of the bill is made up in time spent diagnosing and repairing the problem.
Minor and Major – Of course it is assuring to know if a major component (ie transmission) in your car fails you have cover to sort this. With most vehicles it is the ‘little things’ that cause the most frustration and inconvenience (i.e. Electric window switch or air-con stops working).
Factory audio – This is big. How many cars nowadays come standard with reverse cameras integrated into your entire dash and have associated music facilities like – AUX/USB and Bluetooth. Make sure you check this, as it’s no longer just a jammed CD that causes issues.
Many warranties on the market, dictate to you on where you must go to have repairs and /or services carried out. With Provident, you are not dictated to on where to have your vehicle serviced/repaired. You will find there are many Provident approved outlets throughout NZ, along with most MTA garages that can look after your car. So if you trust your local mechanic, you should find they’re approved to keep you up to date with your regular servicing and carry out any claims. Just mention Provident before commencing any requests. Any job too big, they have got Provident to call on.

This is only a brief summary of why we offer the best cover. Please contact our business managers to discuss further.
